What type of post hole digger do I need?

If you consider the different types of auger drills available, the first thing to think about is the type of machine you’re fitting it to (for example an excavator, mini digger, skid steer or telehandler). Different augers suit different equipment, so to save on cost and time on site, it makes sense to source the right attachment for a machine you already own, or one that you intend to hire.

The next thing to consider is the type of ground you are drilling: soft earth will need a different drill attachment to solid rock. For efficient drilling, choose the right earth drill to suit the soil or substrate conditions on site.

It’s also a good idea to consider the application, or what you’re actually drilling holes for – different attachments are better for post hole digging compared to drilling holes for tree planting, for example.
