About the project
Our customer, Abergeldie Contractors, was engaged to extend, realign and reprofile public roads to make them usable as a road-racing circuit for the annual Supercars Championship event. This included realigning civil and service structures in the Newcastle CBD as well as the nearby beachside residential areas.
Stage 2, 3 & 4 of the construction of Newcastle’s V8 Supercar Track was awarded to Abergeldie, with fast-tracked works planned to ensure the strict deadline could be met.
This complex staged project was time-critical, as the first V8 Supercars event was planned for November 2017 and construction began just nine months prior.
Key challenges
Due to the race track running through residential and commercial zones, access needed to remain open to local businesses and residents during the construction. The contractors had to work within narrow streets, amidst residential areas and to a tight time frame.
For the road works and civil construction component of the project, the project managers needed an equipment hire partner who could provide reliable equipment on time and on budget, to ensure that the project timeline remained on track.
Orange Hire’s Solution
Orange Hire supplied site perimeter fencing including approximately 2 kilometres of temporary fencing and a large quantity of Water-Wall water filled barriers. These simple but effective fencing and barrier solutions ensured that crews could work safely whilst close to cars, as well as keeping the site secure.
Orange Hire also supplied multiple machines including several compaction rollers, excavators varying in sizes from 3.5tonne to 8tonne, a wide range of attachments and site dumpers.
Our involvement in this project and our ability to meet critical deadlines ensured that Abergeldie’s team were able to complete the job within the tight time frame.
